Why You’ll Love These Chai Spiced Pancakes
- Quick & Easy—The base of these pancakes is my favorite pancake mix, which means they are extra quick and easy to make.
- Warm Chai Flavor—My favorite homemade chai spice makes these pancakes taste like a cozy fall morning. Think warm cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, and a hint of ginger. Yum!
- The Perfect Fall Breakfast—Although, quite frankly, you’ll never catch me turning these pancakes down—even in the middle of summer.
These chai spiced pancakes are a cozy fall twist on classic buttermilk pancakes. Made with Krusteaz mix (my go-to for quick, fluffy pancakes), they get a boost of warm flavor from my homemade chai spice blend. Think cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and more—all combining to create a perfectly spiced bite. Stack these pancakes high and top with maple syrup, butter, or even some coffee syrup for a delicious and easy fall breakfast all chai lovers will enjoy.
Chai Spiced Pancakes Ingredients
1. Pancake Mix: My favorite is Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix (grab it on Amazon). It’s the perfect base for fun add-ins or making other breakfast treats (like these mini pancake muffins). Of course, you can use your own favorite mix, but note that flavor, texture, liquid-to-mix ratio, etc. may differ.
One note when it comes to pancake mix—make sure you spoon and level the mix when measuring it! Or weigh it with a kitchen scale (1 cup Krusteaz = approx. 120 g). As it sits on the shelf, pancake mix will settle a lot. So, if you don’t aerate it a bit, you will end up adding too much, creating a drier batter and denser pancakes. To illustrate, I measured ½ cup of mix straight from the bag (no fluffing), and it weighed over 90 grams. The same amount, spooned and leveled, weighed just 60 grams. Just that little extra step really does make a difference.
2. Water: Krusteaz only requires water—no milk, no eggs.
3. Vanilla Extract: A good vanilla extract really goes a long way in dressing up these easy “cheater” pancakes. My favorite is this one from Nielsen-Massey on Amazon.
4. Chai Spice: I might be just a tiny bit biased, but I prefer my own homemade chai spice mix in these pancakes. It’s a warm, sweet-leaning blend that goes really well in these pancakes and baked goods. That being said, feel free to use your own favorite chai spice and adjust the amount to suit your own taste.
How to Make Chai Spiced Pancakes
The process is very quick and easy…
- Make the batter. Add the pancake mix, water, vanilla extract, and chai spice to a medium mixing or batter bowl. Stir or whisk well until there are no visible lumps.
- Heat your skillet. Preheat your skillet over medium-low/medium heat. Melt enough butter in the pan to coat the bottom.
- Cook the pancakes. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, cook your pancakes. For pancakes measuring about 4″ across, cook for about 1-2 minutes on the first side, or until golden on the bottom and bubbly on top. Flip and cook for an additional 1-1½ minutes. Immediately remove from the pan and serve!
