Cozy Fall Movies

As the leaves begin to change colors and the days get shorter and shorter, there’s no better time to curl up with a cozy blanket to enjoy a fall-themed movie marathon. That’s why I’m sharing my ultimate list of fall movies in today’s post.

From the cutest fall rom-coms to spooky Halloween movies and cozy football classics, there’s something for everyone on this list. (Except for horror fans because I am just way too scared for those movies-sorry!) Without further ado, here are more than 30 fall movies you need to add to your watch list now.

Fall Rom-Coms

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

Issues arise when Lara Jean’s love letters are “accidentally” sent to her past and current crushes. To remedy the situation she fake dates one of the recipients, Peter Kavinsky, which goes well until very real feelings begin to develop between the two. This one is perfect to watch during back-to-school season at the beginning of fall.

Watch To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix.

You’ve Got Mail (1998)

Starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, You’ve Got Mail tells the story of two rival bookstore owners who fall in love over email without knowing each other’s true identity. The cozy New York bookstore setting makes this one a perfect autumn watch. As Emily Henry once said, “Is there anything better than iced coffee and a bookstore on a sunny day? I mean, aside from hot coffee and a bookstore on a rainy day.”

When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Here’s another classic rom-com to watch this fall that questions whether men and women can truly be “just friends”. Harry and Sally have known each other since their college days, and ten years later they are still trying to answer that question.

Watch When Harry Met Sally on Prime Video.

Falling for You (2018)

This one has all the components of a Hallmark classic. A businessman visits a small town and gets roped into, wait for it, a Bachelor Bakeoff by the local radio host. I’m sure you can guess what happens next in this light, fun movie that’s perfect for fall.

Practical Magic (1998)

Two witch sisters, Sally and Gillian, must confront a family curse that threatens both their love lives and their survival. Starring Sandra Bullock, this is the perfect spooky rom-com to watch during autumn.

The Proposal (2009)

To avoid deportation to her home country of Canada, successful book editor Margaret Tate (played by Sandra Bullock) says that she is engaged to her assistant Andrew (played by Ryan Reynolds). Thankfully, Andrew agrees to pose as her fiancé with a few conditions, one of which is taking a trip to Alaska to visit his family.

Watch The Proposal on Hulu.

Legally Blonde (2001)

This chick flick classic follows fashion-savvy sorority queen Elle Woods as she enrolls in Harvard University in hopes of getting her ex-boyfriend back. Spoiler alert- he’s not that great, but Elle realizes that she is. I think we all know who won this breakup.

Watch Legally Blonde on Max.

Love, Fall & Order (2019)

This one is a classic Hallmark take on an enemies-to-lovers story. Claire goes back home to help save her father’s Fall Fest, but rival lawyer Patrick wants to shut it all down. I’m sure you can see where this one is going!

Watch Love, Fall & Order on Hallmark Movies Now.

Sweet Home Alabama (2002)

Reese Witherspoon plays Melanie, a New York fashion designer who recently got engaged to one of the nation’s most eligible bachelors (played by Patrick Dempsey, of course). There’s one little problem though- Melanie is still technically married to her high school sweetheart, Jake, and he refuses to sign the divorce papers.

Set on leaving her past behind, Melanie goes back to her small Alabama hometown to convince Jake to end their relationship for good. However, things don’t exactly go according to Melanie’s plan, and she finds that leaving her old self behind is a little harder than expected.

Watch Sweet Home Alabama on Hulu.

Runaway Bride (1999)

Runaway Bride stars Richard Gere as journalist Ike Graham and Julia Roberts as serial “almost” bride Maggie Carpenter. Having heard that Maggie has left three men at the alter, Ike visits the small New England town in which her next wedding is supposed to be held with hopes of witnessing another runaway bride moment to include in an article.

The Princess Bride (1987)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time and while I think it’s always a good time to rewatch it, there’s something nostalgic about the story that makes it a perfect fall movie.

If you have somehow never seen this movie, The Princess Bride is the quirky fairy tale story of Buttercup and her one true love, Westley. There are pirates, Rodents of Unusual Size (aka R.O.U.S.s), sword fights, magic, and more- this one is an adventure.

Historical Romance Movies for Fall

Little Women (2019)

Greta Gerwig’s 2019 film adaptation of Lousia May Alcott’s classic novel gave the beloved story a whole new life. Featuring a star-studded cast, the movie jumps back and forth between Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy’s childhood and adult years. It’s nostalgic, cozy, and one of my favorite movies to watch in the fall.

Watch Little Women on Hulu.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Is there a more classic historical romance movie than this one? Outspoken Elizabeth Bennett and reserved Fitzwilliam Darcy don’t take an immediate liking to one another, but eventually their feelings change.

Watch Pride & Prejudice on Prime Video.

Persuasion (2022)

Here’s another Austen adaptation to enjoy this fall. Dakota Johnson stars as Anne Elliot in this Netflix version of Persuasion, in which she must deal with her ex coming back into her life unexpectedly. Is this a second chance at true love for her?

Football Movies

Remember the Titans (2000)

This one is a classic! Remember the Titans tells the true story of a high school football team in 1971 Virginia that must overcome racial tensions to unite as a team.

Friday Night Lights (2004)

Like me, you might be a fan of the 2007 television series also titled Friday Night Lights, but this film is the OG book-to-screen adaptation of Buzz Bissinger’s 1990 novel. It tells the story of the trials and tribulations faced by a small-town Texas high school football team as they chase the state championship under intense pressure from their community.

Watch Friday Night Lights on Prime Video.

The Blind Side (2009)

Based on Michael Lewis’ bestselling book, The Blind Side tells the story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy who becomes an All-American football player with the help of the Tuohy family.
