It may not feel like it quite yet, but fall is approaching quickly. With it will come cooler weather and shorter days, meaning more time to snuggle up inside and rewatch a show that you’ve already watched about 1,001 times before. They’re called comfort shows for a reason right?
Friends, the iconic sitcom following Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Joey, and Chandler, is the perfect kind of comfort show to rewatch this season. In this post, I am listing all the best episodes of the show to watch during fall, including all 6 Thanksgiving episodes plus some other particularly fall-ish ones as well. So, grab a warm drink, a blanket, and your remote, and let’s get into this list of fall Friends episodes.
The 9 Best Friends Fall Episodes:
"The One Where Nana Dies Twice"
(Season 1, Episode 8)
Okay, yes, this episode is about the passing of Ross and Monica’s grandmother, which is a bit of a downer. However, it is also the very first fall-ish episode of the series.
All 6 friends attend the funeral and we get to watch an extended scene of them outside, a rarity in the show. There are leaves on the ground and they all show up in their finest fall outfits. Football is also undeniably fall-related, and Joey sneakily watches the Giants game on a portable TV during this episode.
"The One Where Underdog Gets Away"
(Season 1, Episode 9)
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is such an iconic holiday event, but this year’s parade goes a bit awry when one of the balloons escapes its handlers. The friends go up to the roof to watch it float away and end up accidentally locking themselves out of the apartment- whoops! This is the first of many Thanksgiving episodes of the show over the seasons and is a definite must-watch during fall!
"The One With The Football"
(Season 3, Episode 9)
Peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, Batman and Robin- some things just go together. Like fall and football!
In this Thanksgiving episode, everyone decides to play football before dinner. Ross and Monica (unsurprisingly) get way too into the game, Rachel is picked last and isn’t bitter at all about it, and Phoebe comes up with some creative ways to win the game. This one’s a classic!
"The One With All The Thanksgivings"
(Season 5, Episode 8)
Here’s yet another Thanksgiving episode, and one of the most iconic ones of the show. Unlike Thanksgivings past, this holiday actually goes pretty well so the friends reminisce on others that were a bit rockier. But what you really need to know about this episode is that it’s the one where Monica and Joey wear turkeys on their heads.
"The One With Ross' Sandwich"
(Season 5, Episode 9)
Who doesn’t love a Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich? Ross brings his sandwich, complete with an extra piece of gravy-soaked bread, to work with him only to have it stolen by a co-worker. Spoiler alert, he does not react well.
"The One Where Ross Got High"
(Season 6, Episode 9)
Season 6’s Thanksgiving episode includes a visit from Ross and Monica’s parents, who are completely unaware that Monica and Chandler are dating and living together. While the Geller family deals with their issues, Rachel is attempting to make a trifle for dessert but ends up including a layer of beef in it by mistake.
"The One With The Halloween Party"
(Season 8, Episode 6)
Friends doesn’t include any Halloween-themed episodes other than this one, in which Monica and Chandler host a Halloween costume party. Costume-wise, we see Chandler attend as the Easter Bunny, Ross as “Spud-nik”, Phoebe as Supergirl, Monica as Cat Woman, Joey as Chandler, and a pregnant Rachel as a woman who just wants to wear the dress she spent a lot of money on while she still fits in it.
"The One With The Rumor"
(Season 8, Episode 9)
Monica invites an old friend to Thanksgiving dinner, Will Colbert (played by the one and only Brad Pitt), who is not a fan of Rachel. Turns out, he and Ross co-founded an “I Hate Rachel” Club in high school. Not a great fact to bring up now that Ross and Rachel have a child together, but what’s Thanksgiving without a little drama?
"The One With The Late Thanksgiving"
(Season 10, Episode 8)
This is the very last Thanksgiving episode of the series, and Monica reluctantly agrees to cook dinner for everyone amidst the stress of her and Chandler trying to start a family. After all the prep and cooking, everyone else doesn’t show up on time. Irritated by their tardiness, Monica and Chandler lock them out of the apartment.
That's all for this list of Friends fall episodes!
Hurry up and watch all of them before the winter season is upon us (and the Holiday Armadillo pays you a visit).
