The Easiest Four Ingredient Oat Bars Recipe

These super easy no-bake oat bars have been a staple snack for me since I was in high school and remain one of my favorites today. All you’ll need is four simple ingredients, a square pan, and about 10 minutes of your time to make these yummy bars. As Ina Garten would say, “How easy is that?”

No-Bake Oat Bar Ingredients:

1. Oats: I know it might come as a shock, but you need oats for oat bars. I prefer rolled oats, but you can also use quick oats in this recipe.

2. Peanut Butter: I do not recommend using natural peanut butter as most varieties separate at room temperature. This will likely affect the consistency of these bars and inhibit them from setting up. You need a peanut butter that will remain solid to hold the bars together, so go with a classic creamy peanut butter like Jif or Skippy.

3. Honey: The sweetness in these oat bars comes from honey—no extra sugar needed.

4. Mini Chocolate Chips: While not technically required for these bars, I love topping them off with some mini chocolate chips.

Oat Bar Variations

Mini Oat Hearts: I made these little hearts as a pre-Valentine’s treat. Just mix the chocolate chips into the oat mixture (instead of topping the bars with the chips) before pressing a generous amount into each heart in the silicone mold (see a similar one on Amazon). Chill the hearts in the freezer for about 10 minutes so you can easily pop them out of the molds. Then you’ll have a cuter (but just as yummy) version of my favorite oat bars!

Heart Oat Bites

Oat Bites: If you’re a person who loves the whole energy bite look, you can easily roll this oat mixture into balls. Like the hearts, make sure you mix the chocolate chips into the peanut butter oat mixture before rolling them into balls.

Oat Balls

Add other toppings or mix-ins: Drizzle the oat bars with melted chocolate or replace the chocolate chips with your favorite granola mix-ins, like chopped nuts, dried cranberries or raisins, etc.

If you’re looking for a yummy sweet snack that requires very little time and absolutely zero baking, these peanut butter oat bars are for you.  Read on for the recipe, and make sure you leave a rating and review once you’ve tried these bars for yourself.

Equipment (Shop on Amazon)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup honey
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • ¼ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips (or as many as you'd like!)

Instructions

  • In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave the peanut butter and honey for 20-30 seconds.
1 cup creamy peanut butter, ½ cup honey
  • Stir together the warmed peanut butter and honey until well combined. Add the oats and mix until the oats are coated in the peanut butter and honey mixture.
    3 cups rolled oats
  • Grease a 9 x 9 pan. Spread the oat mixture across the bottom of the pan, firmly patting it down into an even layer using your hands or a small spatula. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips across the top of the bars and lightly press them into the oat mixture.
¼ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Refrigerate for at least an hour to allow the oat bars to set, then cut into squares and enjoy! I also store these bars in the fridge as they become a bit soft if left at room temperature.

  1. Loved your chocolate zucchini cake so we decided to try these oat bars. They’re quick, easy and delicious. We like them better than the oat bars from the store – and they’re less expensive. Yummy.
